Halloween

takeout.jpgI’ve decided to host a big Halloween party this year.  Italians don’t celebrate Halloween, but it’s time they started celebrating, dammit.  So I’m going all out with food and decorations and music and games.  Luca doesn’t think anyone will get dressed up, so I’m putting a note on the invites obligating guests to come in costume and advising that anyone who shows up without one won’t be allowed inside.   HA!

Obviously, I have to have the best costume of all (hostess with the mostess).  I haven’t decided yet what to be.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I was thinking a box of Chinese food, as that’s something I’ve wanted to dress up as for a long time…but hardly anyone here even eats Chinese food, so I don’t know if they would get it.

Anyone know what they’re dressing up as yet this year?  Are any of you hosting parties this year?  It’s kind of a bad year for parties, because All Hallow’s falls on a Wednesday.  I’m having mine the Saturday after (you’re all invited!!)

I remember obsessing about how to make that costume. It’s still hot!

There’s a “Fall Ball” party for work on the Friday before Halloween, but I have no idea if it’s a costume party.. 🙁 We’re also planning on going to a festival called “Pigs and Pumpkins” that Saturday. There’s barbeque, a rodeo, and a pumpkin catapulting contest! Muy exciting.

Exciting! Pigs and pumpkins sounds like fun! i’m rethinking the halloween party b/c everyone I’ve asked so far has been like “no way am I getting dressed up”. halloween is just not a part of the italian mentality. so i’m thinking to ask everyone to come wearing black and bring a bag of their favorite candy…any ideas?

Yeah it seems like no adults are into dressing up. What about a murder mystery dinner night??? Still kind of creepy/Halloweenish! Oak and I attended one, and it was so much fun. Everyone gets assigned a character and you have to pretend to be that person all night. You could even give people some costume stuff to wear! I think you can buy the stories online (in English.. I have no idea if they come in Italian??). Everyone gets a book that basically tells them their “part” of the story. Oak was the murder at the one that we did!!! LOL!

I think our “Fall ball” thing is not going to be a Halloween party either. 🙁 I am trying to convince the planning committee that we need to make glitter pumpkins for the decorations! haha. Hotness.
