Leaving Santa Monica, our plan is to stop for lunch in Santa Barbara, then drive another hour or so and stay overnight in Saint Louis Obispbo.
Somehow, we completely pass Santa Barbara and don't realize it until an hour later. Woops! So we stop for lunch in SLO and, deciding we'd rather be by the water, keep on driving until we get to Morro Bay.
We find a great little hotel to stay at--Dave works his charm and shrewd business skills and even gets us a cheaper rate! This is the nicest hotel we've stayed in on this trip (Hello, they serve cookies and sparkling grape juice in the lobby!) We arrive a little before dinner and get ready for a low-key night on the town.
Walking towards the water in search of a restaurant, we're just in time for the sunset!
We dine at Windows on the Water--a fine dining establishment very similar to our beloved Three Birds.
The restaurant has a keen sense of atmosphere.
Plus an oyster bar!! We decide to splurge: oysters on kelp, a great bottle of wine--we fill ourselves to the brim and even have dessert!
It seems fitting and so we both order fish for dinner--it's great!
Here's a close-up on dinner.
We love this old fishing town.
The next morning we head into town, intruiged by the big rock we saw the night before.
We wish we had time to stay and go kayaking!
Watching the seals frolick in the bay, we have one more meal on the water and we're off to San Francisco! |
