The Garden 2011

When Mom and Dad were here last month they tilled the garden for me and even started planting. Tilling that garden is no small chore, let me tell you, that dirt is like cement. In fact they ended up breaking the head of a shovel right in half! Thanks to their efforts, and some follow up work on my part, the garden is now well on its way. Here are some pictures, taken last Saturday:

Tomatoes, 3 varieties

Basil plant-lets and basil seeds

These are some onion-types that Luca's Uncle gave us...

I planted flowers all around the border of the garden

The artichokes are doing great this year, everyone in Verduno wants some!

8 zucchini plants and a row of corn. This picture doesn't do them justice.

Pumpkins

A random poppy plant that sprouted from seeds my Mom gave me

You can't really tell from this picture, but these are beans (green and purple)

Lettuce that's been replanted twice: grow already!

Woah, your new website motifa is HOT !! šŸ™‚ I wish we had some ‘garden fairies’ – any chance your parents want to do some gardening in NC? haha.

I’m so jealous of your artichokes and the poppies. I tried growing poppies last year and they died. I’m trying to figure out what the “easy variety” is because there are fields of them at our highway exits.. so it can’t be that bad! LOL šŸ™‚ Make sure you post some pictures of your harvest! šŸ™‚

Thanks Carrie! Yeah, it was great having those fairies around, and at just the right time too. I’m hoping they’ll come back in time for weeding season. I like the idea of having little tiny fairies prancing about in the garden (which is what I first thought of when I saw your comment about fairies, I only later realized what you were really talking about…) Remember the Gnome Mobile? http://youtu.be/5fDMJnLH6FI

There are fields and fields of poppies here too, but the seeds I planted last year didn’t come up until this year – random. And only one plant, though it did have a lot of flowers… I think the birds must have ate them or a clandestine opium lodge found out I planted them and came and dug them up….

haha, I’ve never heard of the gnome mobile movie! In fact… I was really confused when you sent me that link because isn’t that the same exact kids that are in Mary Poppins? LOL! The fairies are really cute though, I think that would be a good halloween costume!

REally? I was sure it was one of the $ a day rentals we got at home video or one from the video archive at WML. Yes, there’s like the whole same cast of Mary Poppins! (The laughing old guy is in on the fun too). The halloween garden fairie costume is a good idea, it could also be like a harvest tribute to the garden and perhaps bring good karma for next year’s growing season!
